Parthenon for the full moon

Cindy and I scored nicely on our first evening in Greece. We flew into Athens for 1 night before moving onto Corfu to do some sailing. After putting our things away at the Hotel (Holiday Inn airport very nice and reasonable). We took a bus downtown to walk the Plaka (oldest neighborhood in Athens) and after hitting a wine bar we stumbled (not literraly) to the Parthenon and it was our lucky night.

It was a full moon so the Parthenon was open at night to celebrate and it was free. We really enjoyed walking around and looking at everything. So old and yet beautiful and what a great setting high on the Acropolis. We really enjoyed just hanging out and checking the view.

If your not familiar with the area this snipit from Wikipedia explains it: The Parthenon (ancient Greek: Παρθενών) is a temple of the Greek goddess Athena, built in the 5th century BC on the Athenian Acropolis. It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece, generally considered to be the culmination of the development of the Doric order. Its decorative sculptures are considered one of the high points of Greek art. The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of ancient Greece and of Athenian democracy, and is one of the world's greatest cultural monuments. The Greek Ministry of Culture is currently carrying out a program of restoration and reconstruction
