The Search for Liquid Nails

As property managers Gene and I often have to go to the hardware store. Frankly Gene is much better suited and qualified for these things and typically handles all construction projects.

Today however I was going that way and he asked me to pick up a few things on behalf of one of our properties. The list it seemed was simple. A shower head and some Liquid Nails (construction adhesive).

I stopped at 4 different hardware "esque" stores and found no liquid nails and only one option on a shower head ( a real beauty that costs $2.50).

At my final stop I stopped at GMA/Sherwin Williams. This is a little paint and supply store that is owned by Guy Mueller an expat that has been acting as a general contractor for some time on Roatan. I said "Guy do you have any liquid nails or know who does"? He then went on to explain to me that it was unlikely to find it on the island. He actually used to stock it but stopped.

Why did you stop it I asked, figuring it must be that the product did not hold up in this climate or something. He explained once he showed his guys about liquid nails they really took to it. So much so that the next thing he knew they were trying to glue up entire projects and he had to take the liquid nails away. "They were sticking everything and even if you told them no to I could tell the way the liquid was flowing and the nails were still in the bags that it was not being used correctly".

So he quit ordering it and no one else does that we can find and so here we are an island with only old fashion nails. So if your ever coming this way feel free to call or email me I might just need a little something that you just can't get here.
