The Truck Day 30
As frequent readers know Cindy and I have been trying to purchase a new truck in Honduras. Not only are we trying to buy it we have been working to finance 60% of it.
So I am glad to announce after 30 days and untold documents including a co-signer we signed the paperwork yesterday. Since we are buying the truck from the mainland we actually had to pay to fly our salesperson over to Roatan to sign the papers. I thought this sounded like an absurd idea when Rafael told me you either fly here or you fly me to you. I thought why doesn't he just send me the papers and I will sign them and send them back.
After going through the documents yesterday I now know why. If you have ever closed on a home and signed papers till your hands fell off you have an idea of what it is like but let me assure you it is much worse than a simple closing. We signed about 50 documents and it took over an hour so signing.
A couple of other funny things came out of the experience. I asked when will we get the license tag. Rafael said probably a year. The government is not making any right now and so we are expecting a year since so many people are already waiting on them. Don't worry he said here is a letter to keep in your car that says its OK for you not to have the plate.
The best part of the process though was the free gifts Rafael bought us for buying the truck. I got a pen with my name on it, a key chain, and a sounds of the 70's CD ROCK ON!
So as I write this I am getting ready to go to the freight yard and get our truck off the boat. So hopefully the boat did not sink last night and I can look forward to driving our new truck today.
