French Cay Private Island

Here is a shot from the air of our new private island French Cay that we are managing.

This island is really neat and rents for $3000 a month + Utilities.

French Cay is the private island dream realized. You will love the beautiful grounds, the sweeping views and a large home only steps from the azure waters. The home has all the modern conveniences you deserve but the privacy you require.

French Cay has a 3 bedroom 2 bath house with an open floor plan kitchen/living area that really brings friends and families together.

The Master Bedroom and bath area have a private entrance to the grounds and great views from the deck. The second and third bedrooms are quite large and share a full bath between them. Both of these bedrooms are in a separate wing connected to the main living area by breezeway allowing all guests to have a greater degree of privacy.

But enough of the house you will surely enjoy spending more time out of the house on one of the many decks and breezeways or lounging in a hammock on the beach. The on island caretakers insure you're well looked after and provide you the freedom to explore all Roatan has to offer. They will take you ashore and pick you up at your request 24hrs a day.

The active vacationer will enjoy the excellent snorkeling from the island. You can also just float your troubles away in one of two tranquil natural swimming lagoons. The large and manicured grounds are perfect for the active family that might enjoy a game of Volleyball, Croquet or Soccer.

Your rental includes use of the island and private boat service to and from the island at your request. Weekly maid service is provided but daily maid and cooking services can be arranged. We look forward to your inquires about this truly unique property in Roatan.

Laying Pipe Roatan Style

Here is an example of something funny Gene and I saw yesterday when we were going out to the private island we manage at French Cay.

This is a 20 + ft piece of drainage piping and of course a little island engineering to boot.

The guy in the truck sits on it so it does not tip up. The guy walking carries the back so it stays in the truck. The guy in the truck drives real slow and we follow them for quite a while.

We asked the driver Mr. Sherman Arch the owner of arches Iguana Farm (yes this is all true come down to Roatan and I will show you the farm). What are you doing? He said I got this pipe delivered but not the guys and equipment just yet to put it under my road so I am moving the pipe down by my Mothers house so she can keep an eye on it for me. You know how things sometimes get borrowed around here.

Gene and I agreed sometimes things get borrowed we all had a laugh and what in the USA is a slow traffic jam somehow becomes a fun 20 minutes in Roatan.

Island Cars

As some of you know Cindy and I bought 1 car when we moved here and have shared it (sometimes successfully some times frustratingly) since then.

Well now that Cindys job has started up and she is working daily we need another car.

We stopped in San Pedro Sula and shopped for cars there on our way back from the states. We saw some nice new cars but they were too expensive to pay cash for. We found some nice used cars but when we really started to inspect the ones we liked and could afford we noticed they seemed to good to be true. It turned out that some of the cars on the lot had dealer info from Louisiana so we got scared by that. No one wants to buy a Katrina car that has been flooded out.

Roatan does not have a lot of inventory and we just have not seen anything locally that we thought was a good fit for us.

So this week I went over to La Ceiba and shopped. The Toyota dealership had no used cars and the new ones were too expensive and the financing was not possible due to our Residency still being in process. Then I checked out the Nissan (Grupo Q) dealership. Raphael Montoya was easy to communicate with and we found a couple of good options there.

Nothing is finalized just yet but it has been an interesting process and a little bit of fun. Hopefully in a blog in the near future I can show you a picture of a new car for Cindy. Till then I am showing you the car of a local Architect and Designer. Great island concept but maybe not as fun in the rainy season.
