Thats not my wife thats a monkey

I Was out at 92 acres we were managing yesterday and the caretaker had found a baby howler monkey. He had it tied up by its neck because he was worried it would get killed if by itself. I was worried the thing would strangle itself. I bought it from him for $50 (he loved that).

After I got it into a box and into my truck I called Cindy and she called Marco Galindo (Julio's brother that owns the Gumbalimba Park). He said if it’s a young monkey and has good manners you can bring it to me and we will take care of it. Then he calls back and says can you bring it tomorrow. We are spraying for some bugs today and I have the park closed.

So now here I am with a monkey not quite on my back but close. So I call Cindy and the "Ellie May" that she is met me at the house all happy for a new pet. I put it into our screened porch, we took out anything we thought it could break and did what anyone would do. Gave it a Banana. That was a hit and I spent the next few hours feeding it, watching it jump around and climb things and roll onto its back to be petted.

Of course We had both read Hotzone which became the movie Outbreak and I was in the back of my mind thinking. Does this thing have Ebola? What if it scratches me or bights me and has Rabies. Never the less it was really tame and docile and I did not pick it up to much or anything like that.

So the night passes and I scooped her up (yea by now we decided it was a girl) and put her in a towel; I could not put her in the box any more since we had shared bananas. We got in the car and true to her nature she climbed as high as she could and sat on the dashboard all the way to Gumbalimba.

I gave her to Marcos who said she was in good shape. He said she was a 4 or 5 month Howler monkey. Those monkeys are not natural to Roatan but Roatan has a few monkeys from pets escaping and breeding etc. Marco's was going to have a vet check her out. He also said he had other howlers and would take care of introducing her etc. Finally Marco says what name does she have. I said call her Cindy.

Furniture Delivery on the BEACH!

The main business for me (Mike I am the one who writes most of these stories) is to with my partner gene manage vacation rental houses. That mostly means take care of them, pay bills and rent them out. Sometimes it means carry washer and dryer across the beach to the house.

Our best vacation rental houses are located in an area called Coral Vistas in the West End of Roatan. There are five 4 bedroom homes in this development and we are managing 3 of them. the 5th and farthest away one is just now being furnished and finished up. These beautiful water front homes with pools and all the luxury you can imagine are not accessible by a roadway (imagine being the developer).

You literally carry your stuff, be it suitcases or today washwer and dryer along the beach to the development and then down a paved path to the house. It is easiy 300 yards to the last unit.

As you can see in the picture above we park at the West End Baptist Church and carry the items along the beach at Half Moon Bay. The first house is all done and our number one rental. The one these washer and dryers are going to are at the end of the point.

All I can say is I am glad I have a great and strong staff like Tyrone and Omar to get these things where they need to go. You can also see our new KIA work truck that Tyrone our maintenanice supervisor is driving these days. This little 4x4 work truck is perfect for the many odd jobs (like carrying a washer to the beach) that we encounter here on a daily basis.

Hope to see you down here soon.

Perro Update

everyone always asks us how are the dogs? we want to see pics of the dogs etc. Well here you go. Butch and Betty are not even a year old yet but they are growing up and getting better with age.

In fact Cindy and I took them to the beach a couple of nights ago and they got along and played with all the other dogs. They both love swimming and jumping in the water.

In fact Betty loves the water so much Cindy purchased a big Plastic tub and Betty will get in the tub and lay in the water. I am afraid to build a pool at our next house because there might not be any room in there for anyone but betty.

The Jazz dog is also great. She is getting grey and a little old in the tooth (12 this summer) but she is still spunky and more than ever is loving the outside. She as most of you know is a house dog with a pension for AC (much like her master) but in the recent days she has taken to staying out all day and hanging out in the dirt with the big dogs.

Jazz also is the alpha dog. While Betty and Butch are more than twice her size she is the toughest one and puts them all in her place. I guess the old saying its not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog is really true.

Well there is the dog update.
