Roatan Crime Watch Program

We have a great local group called Roatan Crime Watch that has raised money and is giving our police force some badly needed tools to help them improve. Currently some of the most basic crime fighting tools (transportation and communication) are in serious need. The Roatan Crime Watch has and is raising money to purchase and then donate to the Roatan police force refurbished police cruisers and a professional secure police radio system. Currently officers often have to wait for taxis or other folks to pick them up to get to places and they use cel phones at there own cost to communicate. We have reached about 75% of our funding goal currently and that money has been stretched far to get some tools. As you can see in the pictures the refurbished cruisers look great and the communication equipment will be really helpful. The mobile office in the cars will allow officers to run id numbers and check on folks much more efficiently. Its a great organization that I think is going to really help our island stay safe for years to come. You can learn more at http://www.roatancrimewatch.com/projectsecure/

Mahogany Bay Carnival Cruise Ship dock with 2 Ships in

I was driving by Dixon Cove (Mahogany Bay) yesterday and was blow away by the view from the main road of two large cruise ships at dock at the same time. It really is amazing progress. There was another ship of equal size at the Royal Caribbean dock in Coxen Hole that same day so we had 3 large ships in at the same time.

Roatan is such a large island that I really did not notice a big difference in the amount of traffic or people around. The cruisers get picked up and taken away to day spots for the most part and then back to the ship for them leaving behind some money for the economy and hopefully spurring the true travelers among them to come back and experience the "Real Roatan" we love day to day.

That all said the picture says it all.

Mahogany Bay Carnival Cruise Ship dock opens in Roatan

Roatans 2nd and larger cruise ship dock opened this last week. Today they had there 2nd ship and as you can see its a beautiful dock and location.

Passengers aboard the Carnival Valor, Carnival Legend and Carnival Glory will really enjoy docking at the new $62 million Mahogany Bay cruise center.

Mahogany Bay features two cruise ship piers, a welcome center with a retail complex housing shops, bars and restaurants, and a transportation and car rental hub. A private beach and a separate excursion pier will also be included. It even has a chair lift to whisk passengers from the pier to the private coral cay beach.

In its first year of operation, Mahogany Bay – Roatan expects more than 520,000 passengers and more than 200 cruise ship calls, including 100 by Carnival Cruise Lines vessels according to Carnival cruise lines.

Its an exciting time here in Roatan and this latest development is something the island can be very proud of.
